Short finish and not very complex but still enjoyable. For $80/bottle I’d prefer a bit higher ABV. No batch info; this was a sample received in January 2021.

I have had Yuu Baal before but am pretty impressed by the quality of this espadin even with high production numbers (6000 bottles in a batch sounds pretty industrial, but the bottle says its methods are artisanal). Bottle 7441/11880. Aroma – nose is smoked with a hint of Roasted agave. Strong smell of alcohol for a 44% abv. Taste – Smoke overpowers the agave, not very complex but a very one note mezcal. It doesn’t taste like mezcal, it tastes more like a bad tequila. By the way, the bottle does not have the “Mezcal Artesanal” legend, so it is likely not following the traditional way of doing mezcal, and it is the reason why it doesn’t taste like mezcal.
